Day 1: Old Delhi Heritage Walking Tour with Taj Mahal Private Trip
Our first stop will take us past the twin temples: the Red Temple (a Jain minority sect temple) and the Shiva Temple (a Hindu temple), followed by a stunning Sikh temple with its magnificent gold-plated dome. Across the street stands a historic British-era church, home to a functioning missionary school.
Next, we’ll venture into Dariba Kalan, an expansive jewelry market known for its intricate handcrafted jewels and precious stones. A short walk later, we’ll enter Parantawali Gali, or Bread-makers Alley, famous for its enormous breads so rich and large that no one can finish a whole one! This bustling area is also home to Nau Ghara, a cluster of Mughal-era mansions, where the descendants of former merchant families still run their hereditary clothing businesses. The stunning architecture here provides fantastic opportunities for photography.
We’ll then visit the Mirza Ghalib Haveli, once home to the legendary Mughal courtier and poet, Mirza Ghalib. Afterward, we’ll make our way to the Chunamal Ki Haveli and the vibrant Khari Baoli spice market – the largest spice market in Asia! Immerse yourself in the vivid colors and aromatic scents of countless spices as we wander through the bustling market.
Finally, we’ll stop for a photo opportunity at the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India, built by Shah Jahan, the creator of the Taj Mahal.
OPTIONAL: To save time and effort, you can take a short rickshaw ride (INR 30 per person) to reach the mosque, before being dropped back at Lal Quila metro station by our guide and rickshaw for the conclusion of the tour.
